losing your (my) blow <Its Back Now!>

At least you had a blow to lose… After two weeks I’m still trying to find mine. :frowning:

Sigh. I can get the first register scarcely breathing into the flute, a lovely deep resonant sound it is too. But the second octave remains elusive, unless I blow my brains out and then all I get is hissing and spitting noises. Exercises like “long notes jumping octaves”? I wish…!

Still, I shall persevere. I have whistles a-plenty to learn the tunes on and time in the evenings to try and teach the lips (*&%&$^ing stupid lips!) to ‘remember’ what they did the last time I actually managed a 2nd octave G that didn’t threaten the windows.

What really gets up my nose is, the day my flute arrived and I first hefted it into position, I ran straight up a 2-octave arpeggio no problemo…then I made the mistake of taking a breath and that was it gone for a burton.

Gary,

Are you frowning (i.e., aiming your airstream down) or rolling in too much? Also, maybe experiment with fingerings? I’m amazed at how different things sometimes have to be from flute to flute, let alone whistle to flute.

good luck!

Well everyone, just glad to let you know that the blow is back. Thank God, as I was about to question why I played flute.

Thanks for all the input, pity, and advise!

Eric

PS- Cathy-look foward to meeting you in Clare this summer.
