(Kicking myself for selling an Overton B-flat some time back…)
A recording session I’m taking part in has need for a B-flat whistle. Any suggestions for a nice-sounding B-flat I whistle can get in a week or so?
Susato, Water Weasel, Dixon, Hoover…???
Anyone selling a B-flat?
Call Thom Larson at the Whistle Shop first thing tomorrow morning and have him send you a Dixon. The Dixon B flat is a lovely sounding whistle. He may have a PVC Silkstone B flat in stock, too, which is a very nice whistle, though quite a bit more expensive.
If you want a really breathy sound, and you’ve got large capacity lungs, you could get a Shaw B flat from Elderly instruments, and they would ship it out tomorrow as well. They have Generation B flats in stock, too (but they’re inconsistent in quality - I wouldn’t recommend them in this case).
I’m not a big fan of the Susato B flat. I find it a little harsh in the second octave. Elderly should have them, though, if you like them.
That’s all I can think of that you could get in a hurry. Unless I can interest you in a fife…
Ask Glenn about getting a Water Wease quickl. It’s such an amazing instrument – big sound, a little sweet, a little chiffy, but most of all, it’s almost like playing a low whistle.
You might not have to wait for a Burke. My favourite Bbs are Overton, Abell, and Sindt, none of which are like Burkes, but all would require a wait. I’d prefer a Burke to any of the suggestions made so far.
Micah check your PMs.
