Who was the guy who was re-drilling whistles for Klezmer? What did you do? How did it work out? Any whistles better than any others (PVC vs. metal)? etc.

This is C&F’s Daniel Bingamon’s company. On the basis of a highly seductive sound clip, I just ordered high D Ahava Raba and harmonic minor whistles from Daniel and they’re on the way now. Mixolydian would also be useful but a standard whistle should be all you need here. Whistles in both these modes in G would also be useful but you have to start somewhere. I just did. I’ll let you know how they go. (If you wanted to spend the money, I suspect you could talk Colin Goldie into making you Overton klezmer whistles.)

Didn’t someone once post about how tomodify a current whistle? I have some I wouldn’t mind experimenting with.
I you want to modify a high-D for the Ahava Rabba Scale for example I will post the hole positions and diameters for a standard 1/2" OD tin whistle tube with 1/32" wall thickness. This tubing size is very common with brass high whistles and is availble through K&S Metals and most hobby stores.
Now, the point where the left and right hands meet are so close musically (1/2 tone) that you will have to diagonal the holes so your fingers don’t hit each other.
Cut the tube the length of the original tube of the mouthpiece and trim so that it plays the ‘D’ in tune.
Measurement from bottom of tube to center of holes.

The above diameter would work for converting a typical whistle with a plastic fipple.
