I’m waiting for my “Kerry Low D Plastic/New Bluehead” to arrive in the mail. Has anyone tried these? What are your opinions? I’m a beginner so I got what Phil described as a good whistle for beginners!
I started low D on the Kerry with black head. It’s a nice beginners low D in my opinion. Easier to blow and with nice volume. Good luck.

I have a Kerry plastic-head Low D and a Howard. Generally I prefer the Howard (requires less breath), but the Kerry has a nice sound and doesn’t need to warm up like the Howard.

I’m not a huge Low D player, I played more when I was younger before I I started playing flute.
But the Kerry was my first Low D. Since I have owned Overton, Susato, Burke and a Brass Chieftain (Gold). It’s the only one I still have, no breath issues, no warming up, easy transitions, no need of polishing. And none of the notes are flat or sharp, and the reach isn’t funny.
It’s like a big, really nice generation, personally, I wouldn’t recommend a different Low D to anyone.
Wow. That’s quite and endorsement of the Kerry Low D! Especially considering that you’ve let both Overton and Burke go, while keeping the Kerry. Guess I’ve always thought of the Kerry as a “beginner’s” Low D, not in the same league as the Big Boys. Interesting.
hm. I’ve heard so many say that kerrys were just super. like even professionally. The one I got is specifically for beginners, but I thought their pros and (do the chieftains count coz they’re by the same maker) chieftains were considered really good pro whistles. Am I wrong?
The “beginner’s” Kerry I’m referring to is the one that looks like a big Generation. An aluminum body with a black/blue plastic-type head. NOT the Kerry Pro, and NOT Chieftains or Songbirds, or Chieftain Golds, etc.
