is there a website or a program that would let me program
a sequence of chords, so that I could learn to improvise upon that bass/chords line?
Is that a flugelhorn in your avatar, and do you play it?
Oh, and I don’t know about your question. You might try to download Finale Notepad and do it manually. It’s been a while since I used Notepad, so I’m not sure that they still let you do everything, but it’s worth a shot.
are you looking for something that will play on your computer as you go or are you just looking for the written progression?
Well, I had assumed she wanted something that would play on the computer. The Finale program should have a playback option that will put whatever you type in out in midi. Of course, it would make the written notation as well.
Any MIDI sequencer would allow you to record and then loop as much as you want, similar to the toy pad here on](http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=45409&sid=7d37b2908c20a0960cf7b6c481ec2bee%22%3Eon) a nearby thread, only with much more control.

The method of writing out the chords in some music program, such as the one suggested, is one way to go. Another is to purchase CDs that play the chords or band backup. You can search for music minus one or jazz play along CDs. Another way to get started is to Lee Konitz’ 10 step method. You don’t need the chord changes, at least initially, to use his method since you begin very simply by playing minor variations on the melody.
yes and yes, and cornet too. but for ITM I play keyless flute.
the photo was made during a band rehearsal when I was playing around with my (then) new nokia cell phone.
thanks everyone for your advice. i will check all the links. in fact i was looking for a playback thingie, but the Lee Konitz method might be useful too. we will see.
My Jazz Professor at school uses a program called “Band in a Box.” I am taking an improv class and he will make us CDs with the changes and no melody.
Check out www.wholenote.com
Mainly a guitar website, but they have some really cool feathures that works for any instrument, including the particular feathure your looking for ![]()
Cheers
That’s what I use. It’s exceptionally easy and a great practice tool.
Plus you can change keys and musical styles with a simple mouse click.
This is exactly what Band In A Box is for. Plunk in the changes, pick the style, and play. Old versions work well on old computers, BTW.
