I bought this practice set a while ago. No makers mark. Bellows We’re no use, not just needing seasoned, and the bag was altered for a left handed player. I’m right handed, so I made a new bag, cover and bellows for myself. It’s the chanter I’m interested in. Anyone know who made it. It’s completely boxwood. Decent reed in it, and I’m now playing it ok. Be good to know who’s work it is.
Thanks in advance,
Has no one any idea?
I’m not sure how visibility works on this site so I’m commenting on my own post on the hopes it be noticed by someone who can help with possible maker info. Cheers guys
The thing I observe is that the turnery on the chanter has a bit of a Spanish feel to it.
Why specifically “Spanish” I can’t put my finger on, but it does. (I used to play Gaita and I’ve seen hundreds of them.)
Interesting bellows design . Chris Bayley ?
I feel sure it was British made as I bought it from Englad via a house clearance (I’m in Scotland) and it came with some pipe making tools, reamers etc. and other parts. I thought maybe the maker died or retired and his stuff got sold of.
Thanks Will. No, not a Bayley bellows. I made them and the bag myself. I make Scottish pipes and I’m planning to starting making Uilleanns in the near future to, once I’m all set for it.
