Ok, I am asking for help. I need to pay someone in the UK 84 Pounds Sterling. I have called many, many banks, post offices and other such institutions and it seems the laws on foreign money orders or drafts, have changed. The receiver needs to get a check (cheque?) and I am unable to get one. SO…I would like to send the money through Paypal (I’ll send an extra few dollars or pounds to cover the fees) to someone in the UK (who knows me here on C&F, and who I know here) and have that person send the man a check for me. If you are willing to help and I know you, please contact me. Thanks in advance.
If the foreign currency laws are difficult, what’s is wrong with sending dollars by ‘signed for’ post. It’s is possible to exchange US dollars over here, just agree an exchange rate with a little extra for the exchange fees.
If I’m buying from the States, I always send dollars as they are obtainable at the Post Office and many other places but always by ‘signed for’ mail service.
Try the next link: https://www.xe.com/fx/. It’s quite some work to register and get the formalities done, but when you’ve done that, transactions go fluently. They do not charge commisions and it’s free of any charge at all. The site of the Alba whistles refers to it as well.
Won’t the other person accept PayPal? That works in the UK.

You can get them drawn in Pounds Sterling (as well as Euros).
I have used them without problem for paying several folks in the UK
(among them, Phil Bleazey, Misha Somerville, Early Music - for a folding wooden music stand) as well as (in Euro) folks in Germany (among them, Helmut Gotschy and Christian Hedwitschak).
Everyone of them has said that it was very easy with no questions or fees on their end. And, if you have AAA, no fees on our end, either.
(But they do come only in even increments of 20, 50, 100, and 200 Pounds [or 50, 100, or 200 Euro]).
