Another Diet Coke drinker here! Actually, I only drink one 12oz a day - at lunch. It’s tea (unsweetened) most of the day and water at night (unless I have some wine!).
Last time I took a drink of regular Coke, I wound up sick to my stomach!
I stopped drinking regular soda (correctly called “pop” around here) at least a decade ago. I figured I didn’t need the calories and they are sooo easy to ingest in liquid form. Now I’ve had to cut out the caffeine too so I now dring diet, caffeine free Coke or Pepsi. I haven’t decided which one I like better. Recently I have also been going for a taste from my childhood in Detroit, Vernor’s Gingerale. It is available in diet but doesn’t have quite the nose-tingling quality of the original. My grandmother used to make ice cream floats for us with vanilla ice cream and Vernor’s. Everyone should try this at least once in their lives. So, the day before my grandmother’s funeral (she was 96) I and a couple dozen of my siblings and cousins enjoyed Vernor’s ice cream floats in her honor. She would have enjoyed that.

Can’t stand Verner’s ginger ale. Too weak and watered down. Has to be Pure Spring or (what else?) Canada Dry. I’m told that no-one stocks ginger ale in Ireland.
Interesting read on Irn Bru on wiki. Says its available in Canada, but I’ve never seen it nor heard of it. Perhaps only in larger centres at ethnic outlets. I’ve had some Italian soft drinks in Toronto that are excellent, e.g. Mio.
If we’re gonna talk ginger ale, it just HAS to be Ale 8! Produced in beautiful eastern Kentucky, and, like Coors used to be, best consumed there.
Not only is it ginger ale, but it has caffeine!! And you can still get it in real, glass bottles!
I know someone that can tell you the best vending machine in Stanton KY to get it from…
My favorite ginger ale is Reed’s Jamaican-style, but it has to be the no-fructose “Premium Ginger Brew”: 17 grams of fresh ginger root, lemon, lime, honey, pineapple, herbs and spices. Yum.
I rarely drink other sodas; too sweet (even the diet ones). I mainly drink water, with the occasional coffee (1 cup per day), hot tea, lime-ade, or beer.
After all this multicultural exposure on C&F, I end up giving “pop”, “soda”, and “soft drink” equal time now because I can’t remember what the heck I used to call it. The locals find it, and thus me, exotic. I hope that’s an improvement.
