I was wondering, does Generation make low whistles or no? And if so, where can I order them and what is the price range? Are they any good??? Thank you very much!!!
The lowest Generation is the Bb (not really a low whistle). You can get them from http://www.thewhistleshop.com . -brett
well, even if they do, with their inconsistency in quality control, i am not sure it is worth it. i have purchased a few generations d’s hoping to get a beauty, but no. i am open minded, but your average faedog or clarke sounds better than any modern generation ever will. spend the money and get a burke composite, you can’t go wrong.
Hi Gemm84,
and welcome to the board!
In defense of Generations, I’ve been perfectly happy with all mine, I’ve had more trouble with other similarly priced whistles, due to poor moulding (i.e. excess plastic) or damage to the heads. (Finger points at Doolin, Walton & Feadog). I’ve transplanted Generation heads onto two of the offenders, and they play fine.
You’ll find a spectrum of views on Generation whistle quality on this board, but alas, they don’t go below Bb.
Actually, I have also only good experiences with Generstions. OK, I had to remove some excess plastic and partially filled the cavity, but they work very well. On the other hand I don’t give much for the praised Sweetone. It is easy to play but it just doesn’t sound good at all.
Consistency of Generations may be
improving–there have been reports to that
effect. Good ones are indeed good ones.
Also many people have said
that the Bb generation is the most consistent. Best to play before you pay.
Low whistles are said to start with
the G; Gens stop at Bb, as others are
saying in this thread.
Generations are inexpensive.
Welcome to the board!
I’m originally from Wisconsin, too–a little town up in the northwoods called Eagle River. Great place to live and so beautiful!
Again, welcome!

As far as my experience with Generations goes, I got a full set of the 6 keys in brass for christmas, and the only one that sounds really icky is the Bb. The F is really good, and the rest, although not exactly outstanding, are at least playable…
ps. do keep in mind that you’re pretty much required to take off the mouthpeices and clean out all the extraneous plastic and crap to get them to be usable. If you’re too lazy or too chicken to bother with that, I wouldn’t recommend getting a Generation at all…

Thanks for the advice everyone! I’m forced to go to highschool every day and to a band that hates playing music!!! It’s good to get to talk to musicians who like music.
