I was wondering how to post home made audio files. Such as using a microphone to record a whistle clip. I only ask because I have this one song I’m trying to learn, and I don’t quite know all the notes. And I don’t know the name of it. I’ve got the just of it, but not quite 100%. Anyways, it sounds like a traditional Irish jig. If I had to make a guess it’s a jig. I’m not exactly an expert on classifying songs. Anyways, If I could somehow put the audio file on here for you guys to listen to, (a clip of my playing of the song) maybe someone could help me name the song I’m trying to learn? Therefore finding sheet music for it and nailing the song if at all possible. It’s an Irish song, so I figured this would be the best place to ask. Any help is appreciated greatly,
There’s a bit of info you would need to provide first. Do you have a sound card on your PC that has an input jack for a mic? Do you have a mic? Do you have sound recording software already? If you already have all the above and know how to use it, you can go to the Clips n Snips Tune Archive (link is on the main forum page) and find there instructions on how to get your recording posted on C&F.
If you have none of the above, you might want to use the Search function, as all these topics have been previously discussed many times. You might find some helpful suggestions on each item in the various threads. There’s lots to learn (and buy).
Jigs vs Reels - basic jigs are in 6/8 time (count 1 2 3,1 2 3 fast), reels are in 4/4 time (count 1 2 3 4).
I have all the above. Mic, and basic recording software. All I have is the sound recorder that comes with Windows. So I’m thinking that should work right? Anyways, I know reels are fast, but this one if I had to make a guess is a jig. I don’t read sheet music either, so uh, I don’t know much about the time signatures. I play almost strictly by ear. I just use the sheet music to make sure I’m hitting the right notes sometimes.
You should be all set for getting your recording posted then. Go here and look for the section “How to get your music online”: http://www.tinwhistletunes.com/clipssnip/
You don’t have to read music to use the basic beat counts I posted.
I guess I’m not much of a computer expert either… But, with the basic sound recorder that comes with windows, all I have to do is record the file, send it to the e-mail address (or tony higgins) and name it etc. and I’m set? If so then thanks and I’ll get right to it!
