"Horse nuts," are they same as......

Hi Dale

In another posting and thread, the phrase, “Horse nuts” was used. Are they the same thing as Prairie Oysters in Canada?

Not to be confused with the great band Prairie Oyster, though.

It’s late here or early somewhere depending on your time zone and I was just wondering about that phrase.

Is there a tune that can go with that phrase, can anyone think of one,

Mark

No nothing about ‘Horse Nuts’, but here we have a few affectionate and equally tasteless names for tunes:

The Convenience Reel - affectionately known as ‘The Badgers Fart’

Dara’s Jig - affectionately known as ‘The open Komono and the view thereafter’

Colonel Frasiers - affestionately known as ‘Dont bend over and bow, you’ll block out the light’

Any Tune ‘Gan Ainm’ (without name) - affectionately known as ‘Fred Flintstones’

…there are others I’ll post as I think of them..

Bye for now,

Ciran

“Dara’s Jig - affectionately known as ‘The open Komono and the view thereafter’”

I’ve never heard the tune, but I’m going to learn it. The tunes with the funny names are the first ones I go for. Keep them coming, ciaran

Mark,
I can guess what horse nuts are but cant imagine any self respecting band wanting to be remembered as a pair of testicles…exactly what are praire oysters? Mike

This thread puts Fred Flintstone’s name in a whole new ballgame. Blame Dale for this. I didn’t know he was a Beavis and Butthead fan.

PS: I phrase my comments for plausible deniability. I.e., ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lies.

Prairie Oyster (noun):

  1. The testicles removed from male cattle (which are then called “steers”) to make them grow faster and reduce agressiveness on the pasture. I’ve never eaten but some folks on the Canadian prairies (and I assume the US as well) quite like them :frowning:

  2. A Canadian band formed in 1986; they have a rather large following despite the name

  3. A cocktail made from Worchestershire sauce, egg, and brandy; supposed to be a cure for a hangover

My father, a veterinarian, would take me along on mass castrations (of bulls) after which the rancher would take a whole bucket of “oysters” which at the time we called Rocky Mountain Oysters, and deep fry them. I recall them being rather pallatable, and I wasn’t even old enough to wash them down with beer !

NOT whistling Dixie.

‘The Armory’, a restaurant in Greeley, Colorado, serves Rocky Mountain Oysters. I really enjoyed them - until I found out what they were

Erik

BB Cody’s and the Buffalo serves 'em breaded and deep fried here, if any of you are curious. I never eat 'em 'cause I’m always on a diet!

Getting a little far afield here but as long as we’re sharing these “tidbits”…in Byron Il they have an annual… …Turkey Testicle Festival…
Never had em…I’m a white meat person myself. Gm

You reminded me of a joke told by Bob Goldthwaite years ago:
What’s the difference between a hamster and a gerbil?
There’s more white meat on a hamster.

To all

I don’t know to laugh or just shake my head in wonderment to the great humour on this board. “OR BOTH” AH–Both!

I did ask, didn’t I?

I feel very enlighten now, thank you all.

Mark

I have to agree with MarkB - I love the humour on this board. Sure, we have our little disagreements from time to time but they are all quickly forgotten with good humour and endless discussions of all things whistles

And in this case, may we safely assume we’re talking high whistles, not low…

You know…all this talk about horse nuts is making me a little testy. It’s just not my bag! JP

Edited P.S. In college, I did have the rare oportunity to hear a recording of a castrato!
