Hometown Hero

Our local news station has a weekly feature “Hometown Hero”. I know this past week’s Hometown Hero. I didn’t have anything to do with this.

Here’s a link to the story. There is video that’s worth watching.

Hometown Hero: Tommy Linville

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – If you’re with someone who suddenly has a stroke and needs immediate medical attention, your first thought may be to call 911.

But, if a mental issue stands in your way, it may be tough coming up with a plan B. Timmy Linville found himself in that situation when his mom needed his help. That’s why Timmy’s our latest Hometown Hero.

Take his hand, and it’s easy to see Timmy is full of compassion, but for him it isn’t always easy to express it. That’s where some women with Prestera, a mental health center, made a difference.

“He has a very limited vocabulary,” Andrea Bailey, who’s with Prestera, said. “We’ve been working with him on trying to develop skills in case he would be in a situation where in case an emergency would happen.”

And that emergency did happen. Timmy’s mom was having a stroke, and because he couldn’t call for help, he ran and got his sister, Linda Woodard. Then came another challenge of telling her what was wrong. He was able to say 1-9, his way of telling someone to call 911.

Timmy’s quick thinking that saved his mom’s life made everyone too proud for words, but if anybody can sum it up, it’s his niece, Laci Woodard.

“I love my Uncle Timmy,” she said. “He’s a hero.”
