High B

Hi all,
Is there a way to hit high B without working up to it with a string of notes before it? I can hit high B no problem from playing within the 2nd octave already, but I am trying to go from playing in the low octave to hitting high B, and I would like to hit it by playing as few notes added in as possible. Perhaps there is alternate fingering for hitting high B to try?
How do you guys hit it?

i was taught : TXOOOOXX. making sure the chanter is closed before you sound the note.

Agree with OR. You may also be able to get away with TXOOOXXX on a closed chanter, but you will still need to run the notes up. If your reed is really light, you may be able to overpressure enough to get straight to a high B, but your drones will waiver with the increased pressure, and a reed that light will usually be unstable in its tuning.

I will try OR’s finger suggestion, and if that doesn’t work I guess I will just have to find a nice sounding run up to high B for the tune. Thanks djm. Besides that will give me the chance to experiment further with my chanter! :smiley:

I tried Oleo.'s fingering on my Stephenson practice set,and that top B came out with a Bang!
I’ve laid off the pipes for almost a fortnight,due to aches and pains in arms and left shoulder (not Pipe induced-possibly digging and a touch of R.S.I.) :cry: -So I’ve had a great time today,playing my practice set and a bit of Flute and whistle :party: .
I seem to have improved during my lay-off(!)spending a lot of time trying to become more fluent in the 2nd octave and the octave transition.
Then again,at this stage in my Piping journey, I don’t have a great deal to forget! :laughing:
