Help: Too dumb to set up TV peripherals...

Ha…you know what I just got, just this morning?
That the component(red/green/blue) cable doesn’t replace the red/yellow/white cables…but only the
yellow part, and you still need red & white for audio! I thought it was one 3-prong standard being replaced
with a different one.
This is why I’m not a doctor. I’d have to call patients back 3 days after I saw them with their diagnoses.
(but, don’t worry…I got it all set up, even without understanding what I was doing.)

Nope. I don’t miss it at all.

I like being able to watch movies and play video games, so learning a bit if cabling basics is what is needed. As mentioned, HDMI is meant to simplify cabling nightmares. Instead of a cable with a hydra of pokey things, you have one thing to one thing. All audio and video info on the same wire, in clear digital perfection.

I added an additional layer of complexity by using a surround sound audio receiver, not only do I have all manner of cabling running to my TV, but then also to my audio receiver.

Wow, I’d never even heard of SCART connectors.
For a long time we did everything over coax, then
Composite, SVideo, Component, and DVI became
common pretty quickly (roughly in that order).
Suddenly there are a proliferation of connectors,
thus Confusionville. We’ll see if any one standard
becomes accepted universally. HDMI is promising
from the industry’s standpoint, since it allows the
MPAA to keep Digital Rights Management from
source to screen.

I simplified my old DVD and VCR setup with a new combo player that had an HDMI port.
