Hi
I use spotify and I need tips for making a chill flute (whistle/low whistle/pipes) playlist.. I listen to a lot of music while at work, but I get a bit to wired up listening to fast reels and jigs all the time so it would be nice to have a playlist with nice, slow, chill, emotional tunes.
Examples that come to mind
Michael McGoldrick - Sophies, Strange Journey
Sylvain Barou - Margaretig
Lunasa - Inion Ni Scannlain
Fraser Fifield - Stereocanto, Slow stream
Please give me pointers to slow reels, airs, waltzes and other kind of tunes. I like both traditional and contemporary so electronica backing is fine as well as flute/whistle solo and traditional backing.
Dónal Lunny - Declan
Altan - An Feochán
Altan - Dobbin’s Flowery Vale > Drogheda Lasses
Paddy Keenan - The Factory Girl
Paddy Keenan - Marig Ar Pollanton > Cahir’s Kitchen
Paddy Keenan - Cape Clear
Lúnasa - The Miller of Drohan
Lúnasa - The Return from Fingal
Planxty - Sí Bheag Sí Mhór
Réalta - Open the Door for Three
I don’t know if they’re all available on Spotify, though.
I have this playlist now if anyone is interested:-)
-Annam Cara/ Ships in the Night
-Ridee
-Teehan’s
-Trip to Ireland
-Strange Journey
-Sophie’s, all by M. Mcgoldrick
-Inion de Scannlain
-Casu
-The Miller of Drohan
-Return from Fingal, all by Lunasa
-Stereocanto
-Slow Stream
-Piece of mind, all by Fraser Fifield
-Alasdair’s
-Carpe Diem, by Steph Geremia
-Starrs, by Brian Finnegan
-Eva, by KAN
-The Ookpik Waltz, by Altan
-Cape Clear, by Paddy Keenan
-Open the Door for three, by Realta
-Ton Doubl Plinn, by Sylvain Barou
As you can see, I also have fast(er) tunes on the list, but prefer slow, groovy, minor tunes.
Thanks for the tip on Brian O hUiginn, that was great stuff! And also for reminding me on looking up Sharon Shannon, I found Upside Down on Spotify with M. McGoldrick! I am having my first listen now, and I’m all smiles:-)
Pretty much any of Chris Norman’s earlier recordings (some of the later ones, too). If you want to stick to Irish stuff, it’s in there, but he particularly shines on Canadian tunes. You mentioned waltzes; he does some amazing Quebecois waltzes.
Great! Thanks!
Deiseal was great listening and Nicholas Williams also! Funny because i was listening to Crowfoot some time ago and I didn’t know that Williams had released soloalbums as well!
