Hi guys,
I bought these recently (on a whim and a prayer) and I’m wondering if someone could help me identify a few of them, especially the wooden flute in the foreground and a few of the low whistles. I have not received them yet so can’t say much more about them. I do know the white pvc whistle is a Mack Hoover low D and the brass one looks like an older Reyburn with the wooden head. The previous owner didn’t seem to know much about them except they were her dad’s and he bought them 5 yrs ago. Any guesses?

The top one looks like a Native American style river cane flute, along the lines of this:

It’s missing the strapped on part that directs the wind up from one hole and across the sound producing hole. You might be able to find info online on how to make this part from a piece of bamboo or wood. These flutes can have a really beautiful, haunting sound.
The third from the bottom (white head w/ brown body) is a Whistlesmith. It’s made of pvc and has a unique fipple design (which you can see up close on the website).
Thanks guys. I was told on the flute forum that the wood flute is probably a Pakistani flute. I was afraid that it might be. I just hadn’t seen any with the wider (bulbous) 1st section. And yes, thats a Whistlesmith low D. Thanks! The last one is def a Native American flute, Brewerpaul, but thanks for the heads up about the missing part. I’ll research that.
The two at the top in front of the flute are definitely of Indian origin as seen in some of the other pix the seller posted. I read in another thread that those Asarkar whistles (Pipolo) made in India are not bad players. Anyway, I picked up the lot for $58 shipped so if the Reyburn and the Mack Hoover are in working order I’d say that was a good deal. Apparently the wooden head on the Reyburn has been chewed on a bit, but hopefully not beyond being playable or reparable.
Any more input about any of these whistles will be appreciated. Maybe I should search out or start a thread about tweaking a Pakistani flute, unless the general consensus is they are utterly worthless. I’ve been loosely reading the other thread warning us about these flutes but I am hopeful I can make it playable.

You might get lucky but, in general, you would be better off starting a thread on how to turn it into a lamp.

Nice. Haha. Yeah the only way I’d buy another one is to make matching lamps or a set of nunchaku so I can go Bruce Lee on that flute factory in Pakistan. Anybody with me?
