Help decide between Irish flute, bambo folk flute,or bansuri

I’ve been playing whistle for over 1 year now and I’d like to try a flute. I was going to get a bansuri flute because I really like how they sound and I’ve been learning about Hindustani classical music, but I’d like the flute I get to be able to double duty of it and use it for Irish tunes too (mostly airs). I’m not sure what the “just intonation” of a bansuri would mean for playing irish music. I’ve been playing my Low D along with a bansuri recording and they seem to be in tune to me. And I think if I can play along with a low whistle then I don’t really need a bansuri just to play hindustani music.

Then I think a bamboo flute from William Miller might be better because it’d be tuned like an Irish flute and it’s cheaper too.

And then I think just get a Tipple, everyone raves about them and that’s cheaper and I don’t have to worry about oiling bamboo and/or having it crack. That kind of scares me about buying a bansuri. A good one is around $125 for key of D and I’m afraid it’ll crack or warp or anything else.

Ultimately if I can learn to play the flute well I’d invest in a really good Irish delrin flute. But just to fool around I’d like to get something simple and inexpensive to try it out.

So is “just intonation” an issue? Do bamboo flutes last long? Should I just pay up now and get a good delrin flute?

thanks for the advice.

I’ve a couple of Miller’s bamboo flutes. They are quite good & I’m happy with them.
I’ve a few Tipples about as well. They’re also quite good, reasonably indestructible, easy to clean and they half hole easily.

For someone beginning to learn flute I’d suggest the Tipple, maybe without the lip plate (for Hindustani), with the wedge.

I’ve destroyed a couple of bamboo flutes over the years. (They aren’t very tough and don’t bounce worth a darn.) However a good bamboo flute is a good bamboo flute and nothin’ else is.

Second that Billy Miller flutes are quite good and also durable. They should work well with Hindustani
music, too.
