Hello whistlers

Sorry Mickey66, I didn’t mean to put you on the spot.

Susan, thanks for the comments.
You carry your Mellow Dogs everywhere?
Would you say they are pretty rugged?
(They are clearly highly regarded musically.)
Thanks!

Rugged? So I would say so.
It goes to work with me but must hang out in my locker all day.
( I work in an operating room and whistling during surgery is frowned upon).

It sits with me on the couch at home and rolls onto the floor.
The dog rolls on it.
The grandson wants to play it and then realizes that duelling with it ( with said dog) is more fun.

It sits on the washer when I am doing laundry and then the spin cycle makes it drop onto the dryer, which is going and so it lands on the floor.

Welcome to Boot Camp for the Mellow Dog!!! Camping and sailing season are just around the corner. Who-ra !!!

Susan

:laughing: :laughing:

Well hello again.
I’ve been on the whistle for about a month now.
At this point I’ve got Road to Lisdoonvarna memorized and I can play it cleanly if I go slow and tongue each note.
I’m not doing any ornamentation yet, just concentrating on rhythm and clean play.

The Sweet tone has been a real pleasure to play once I got a feel for breath control, great deal for ten bucks.

After reading much of the advice posts for beginners I’ve bought a MP3 player and loaded a couple hundred tunes from
http://www.whistlethis.com/ and http://www.tinwhistletunes.com/clipssnip/ . Most of the tunes are from the mentors and masters, Tony Higgins, MTGuru, Eskin, Kilfarboy, and Wynder. Listening has been very helpful, very much indeed.
Thanks to everyone who has for put their work up for us n00bs, BTW.

I’m making progress slowly, but progressing for sure.

One more question;
If you could recommend 5-6 tin whistles albums for beginners and those new to ITM what would they be?
Thanks!

Have youhad a look at This Sticky Thread at the top of the page. Plenty of suggestions there.

Mary Bergin’s Feadoga Stain is often quoted as a highly desireable album.

Thanks Hotblack, I did actually see it.
Frankly, there is so many listed I’m at a loss. Thus the question;
Where to start?
Would any 5 be just as good as any other 5?

Maki, are you looking for CDs to learn tunes from or something to listen to and just enjoy?

My goal is to learn tunes.
All with the idea of being a better whistler.

Never mind, I found this page with the needed recommedations;
http://www.tinwhistler.com/recommendations.aspx

They are;
Mary Bergin
Joannie Madden
Cherish the Ladies
Lunasa
Turlach Boylan
Capercaillie

On the same page is his tutorial favorites.
