I am in Donegal now studying Irish. Unfortunately I’m not able to use the internet very often here at the school, as it’s very slow and very expensive, but I thought I’d write you all a short hello. I got a chance to see all the great pics from the West Coast get-together, which was great! (I wonder if Micah knows he is now part of my posse?)
There have been two great sessions in the town since I’ve been here, one with a couple of Donegal-style fiddlers and one with some musicians from out of town. Right now there are three other students here that play whistle, also, so we will probably get together for a little session sometime this week.
The area is really beautiful (Glencolmcille), with stunning ocean views and lots of sheep. I’m looking forward to heading over to Clare for Willie Clancy week…Hope you are all doing well, and having a great summer,
Slow and expensive is a good way to put it! Last year I think it was 1 euro for 10 minutes and you were lucky if it didn’t crash on you before the 4 minute mark. Have a great time, and tell Liam (“Mise Liiiam”) that six-week Beth from last summer says Cad e mar ata tu!
That’s right. We did that one last week and I think it will haunt my nightmares for the rest of my life.
I’ll say hello to Liam for you…Yeah, the weather has been pretty rainy but it’s been sunny today so we are going down to soak up rays at the beach. At this point my attitude toward the weather has changed from “oh no, it’s raining!” and staying inside to “wow! It’s been sunny for an hour!” and changing into my tshirt.
After my 6 weeks here I feel like I’ll be practically a native.
It’s going to be hard going back to the real world…
It’s always like that. Ireland is so habit forming…every time my leaving approaches I always get that panicky feeling and the thought comes to me: No, this can’t be…I just got here!
Six weeks there too? Very very cool. You will learn which shop to go to for the best cereal price and which for the best dairy prices, and how long you can go before you need to go to the laundrette! Also, try and get an afternoon in Killybegs if you can, but you only need one.
