Half-holing, the mirror, and me...

I never ceased to be amazed how much I can accidently learn in life that I’d never be able to figure out if I thought about it!

I was sitting down, practicing half-holing on my Seery (while debate how many keys I wanted to add), stood up to shift position, and noticed myself in the mirror above the fireplace. Low and behold, I realized just how easy it was to roll the flute out so the tone holes were observable and practice half-holing accidentals. By being able to see how much of the hole I was covering, I could regularly hit the accidental right on, and my tone improved since I could focus on it instead of just where my finger needed to hit to be on key.

So, I did this for about 20 minutes, and I found it immensely helpful…

Just thought I’d share in case there was anyone else out there like me who hadn’t thought of this.

Yeah, I’ve found the mirror to be a very valuable tool. It’s great when you’re trying to adjust your embouchure, too.
