Half Holing Explained

Its been a busy time for me here. All these flutes!

For this client, however, I only had enough time to get his half finished. He was fine with that, however.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA awesome. It seems too easy to half-hole, really!!

Any chance of a sound clip to match??? I bet it’s a lovely, airy sound…

Ha! Love it, Casey. It was a nice touch to protect the identity of the player, too.

Ah, now I see why I was never able to master the technique of half-holing back when I didn’t have a keyed flute. I mistakenly bought a whole flute instead of a half flute! And I bet the half flute would have cost less, too…

And weighed less for those long wilderness treks!

Anyone for S&G’s “Sounds of…”?

Casey, where’s the other half? Any chance of a duet?

A visual ko-an if ever I did see one.

What is the sound of one half a flute fluting?

Here is a link to an audioclip:

Awwww…I thought it would be an audio-CLAP!

Now then! Let’s not split …

I feel the need to say here that Casey’s craftsmanship, both flutily and of this thread must be applauded - naturally in the manner he has illustrated!

mu

That’s a sic joke!

What is the value of mu?

I don’t care much for the tone. A bit too open for my taste.

I’m glad you hid his nostrils. Probably helps to have half as many breathing organs as well.

uhmmmm… is the matching flute a lefty?

be well,

jim

This could be a godsend to people who can’t afford a full-price flute!

Actually it would be nice if Casey would sell flutes on an installment plan. First he sends the embouchure, then a little bit more that adds the first hole, etc.

Mmmmm. Or they could just split the difference with him.

Too funny!

I bit, thinking I might pick up some unknown tips - instead I got my laugh for the day. Great stuff!
