Hey, I recently saw a Tin Whistle at my local “Wee Tartan Shop”, and I was wondering if it’s worth the money? It’s my first whistle, so… It’s $39.99, comes with the whistle, book that teaches you how to play, and an instructional CD. http://www.waltonsmusic.com/instruments/whistles_guinness.htm
The first one is the one that’s there. Thanks in advance guys.
You likely mistakenly posted to the wrong forum. This is the flute forum; you want the whistle forum.
That said, $40 sounds awfully steep to me. You’d do better to get a whistle (the Walton’s is okay; I’d recommend a Clare) and visit Brother Steve’s page, then ask further questions on the whistle forum about tutorials.
The Guiness Pack was my first whistle, the instuctional book is excellent for beginners (fingering chart under every note in the first part of the book). The price seems rather high, shop around. I believe I bought my whistle and book (no CD) for $10-$15.
Be forewarned! Do not be beguiled be this innocuous apearing package! It will definately lead to financial ruin and family turmoil! Leading to compulsive whistle collections and eventually flute obsessions. Your will and resolve will fail and you will develop a compulsive whistle habit, you will become ostricised! Your inability to stop playing will force you into exile from your family!
Oh, quite sorry about the wrong forum posting. It is quite refreshing not to be flamed to death, however, lwhich would happen in any other forum… Thank you for the help though, I will shop around of course, I really, really want to get playing. Darn the impatience of youth…
I’m 16 also, but I was also diappointed, I could go for a Guinness (or six) right now. I recommend the Clarke Sweetone which you could get with the Bill Ochs book you could get that right here http://www.bookch.com/music.htm#3241dds for $25 that is how I started and I neverlooked back on it make sure you have a steady job before taking up the Whistle.
Good to see more of us “young” people around here.
