Great community

I have been wanting to play the pipes for the last 3-4 years. Within the last 3 months I decided it was time to buy a set and learn how to play. I spent alot of time on the internet searching for as much information about the pipes that I could find and stumbled across this forum. Because of this forum I now have a practice set made by Pat Sky and thankfully saved myself the pain of buying a Pakistani set off e-bay…I almost ordered one of those sets before I found Chiff and Fipple.

The purpose of this post is to just say a big Thank You to this forum and to say how much I appreciate all of you. I have never found a place like this where the information flows so freely and people are so helpful. I am amazed by the wealth of information given so freely here. Maybe it is just a reflection on the world of the Uilleann Pipes and how small it is, which ends up leading to the sense of community and the cooperation I have witnessed. I have found myself visiting this site at least 10 times a day to see what I can learn and apply to my learning of the pipes.

So, anyways, Thank you to all of you who have so much more experience for sharing your knowledge. I am excited to start this journey with my pipes and look forward to the day when I can actually play a song that sounds good, can actually play with some drones, and maybe even try some regulators(although I am way intimidated by the looks of them)…Thanks to you all and someday I will post a sound file of me playing something that sounds nice…

OK now feck aff and practice.
Have a nice day.

Uilliam

Uilliam, great to have you back man…you gave me a good laugh first thing this morning.

4.0fig, welcome to the community. Just remember that not everything you read on the internet is true, but I agree there is a lot of good info…the part you have to learn is how to separate the wheat from the chiff

You should try to find an instructor locally if possible, or at least get to as many Tionol and workshops as you can.

Uilliams advice is sound, don’t spend all your time on the internet…go practice!

I am lucky that there is someone nearby who can give me a lesson and stop me from developing some bad habits.

Uilliams I have only one response for you…
