Great CD!

I just got the following CD and it’s really great! I think it’s a classic so most people probably already know about it, but if not, you should check it out. The tunes are played at a slow and relaxed pace and it’s an easy recording to learn tunes from.

The Branch Line
Jack and Charlie Coen
(flute and concertina)

-Brett

I think it’s a classic too. I think it’s fairly well known, but how much so I don’t know. Newcomers are always passing through, so it can do no harm to mention the classics from time to time.

Agreed – fantastic CD. You really feel like you’re sitting there in the kitchen with them while they’re playing. And like you say, the tunes are at a fairly relaxed pace, with not too much ornamentation, so the tune is what really matters. That’s something I like to hear, and it’s the way I want to play, so it’s very encouraging.

Enjoy!
Steven

One of my absolute faves!
If you like ‘The Branch line’,then you may also enjoy ‘Traditional Irish music from Doolin,County Clare’ by the Russell Family, available on the Ossian label (originally on Topic, recorded in the 1970’s).Flute,whistles and concertina, solo and group playing-lovely stuff!

A CD I got last night with my Hammy is Hammy’s new one, “It’s No Secret” Very enjoyable, I really like track 5! It cracks me up.

Cheers,
Tony

I recently got a second copy of the Branch Line. It was by accident during the Green Linnet sale. So now I have a copy at work and one at home. I’m not totally taken with the music, but it’s a great disc for learning technique and getting a feel for the flow and swing of the music.

On the subject of good CDs, i just got the Morning Star (sorry, i’m not even going to try to spell her name from memory! and it’s very nice. Both the singing and the flute playing.
