Gracings for UP, where?!?

Hi!
Has anybody an idea where I can find something about gracings for the UP in the net? Or is there any video (DVD  ) around?!?

Thankx

How much money do you want to spend? Lots of sources: Heather Clarke’s book on UPs, Pat Mitchell’s Dance Music of Willie Clancy book, 3 videos from NPU, Mad4Trad CDROM for UPs, etc. etc.

Do you play, plan to play, just idly curious?

Well, I am playing (since 2 years) pipesand I have now since a few weeks a new developed one, called: ā€œpip le sĆ©ideathā€ which is a pipe with mixed fingering, open and half open in the 2nd octace. The sound is astonishing same like a Uillean from the chanter. Bore and reed is similar from a Uilleann. The 2 drones are fatter, more warm. Pitch is in D.
Now, I have to find gracings on my own and see what I can adapt from pipe models, that are for longer time developed.
Weher can I find the Mad4Trad e. g. ?

Interesting. Does ā€œpip le seideathā€ translate to fairy pipes, as in sidhe? It seems you’ve beaten me to the punch as I’ve been trying to develope something similar, even with a similar name.

Filzmaul, there are lots of sources on the web. Where you are located will determine shipping costs. Here’s just a few places to start with:
NPU: http://www.pipers.ie/en/default.lasso
Ossian in Cork or USA: http://www.ossianusa.com/

Thanks!
IĀ“m located in good olĀ“ Germany  . Will see, what is useful for me…

DonĀ“t be sad , marcpipes, it might make you happy to hear that my pipe is mouth blown, sinc I canĀ“t play with a bellows. I have tried to play with a bellows a ā€œPolish Bockā€, which make me CRAZY at this time…
With my ā€œfeltmouthā€ I have the pipe more under control…

Filzmaul = Felt muzzle

Are you really mouth blowing Uilleann reeds??

Isn’t there a turkish/balkan/bulgarian/vaguely eastern bagpipe which has a mouthblown reed with a second octave? I’m sure I’ve heard a recording of it on Pipeline or suchlike.

Cheers,
Calum

I think it’s one of the Bulgarian pipes

got any pictures Filz?

Yes, I have just shooten some pics, they“re still in my camera but I will sug them in the next minutes. I can mail those, who like to see them should post his email.
I have not heard about that capability of the bulgarian pipes, the only ones I saw live were somehow very ancient, with a cows (or other animals) bladder as bag. They had a clarinette type reed, and a ā€œflew-holeā€ on the bottom of the chanter for to make these wierd ā€œblipsā€ as ghost note. So, I guess, 10 notes, not more, with different tuning. Not bad at all, but: each pipe is designed for a specific type of music, so the bulgarian is. Bavarian music might also be strange on a uilleann

Cheers

I have been talking to Edgar (filzmaul) more off-line about his pipes and he has forwarded on to me more information and pix,
they were made by Jens Güntzel, a pipemaker from eastern Germany, and are a new design

VERY interesting website! Am I interpreting that wrong, or does that
small spur gear control an adjustable finger on the drone reed tongue?

 Yes it is! Bingo!
