The only likely result of the US invasion of Iraq has, all along, been the the installation of a regime indistinguishable from Saddam’s, but compliant to US wishes.
That is, that’s the most favourable result. There are several worse results–Iraq could turn into either Lebannon or Afghanistan.

However, these are disgusting allegations. We’re knee deep in the filth now, and have no moral high ground left.
It’s no surprise, after all, the US supported Saddam during the time when his brutality against the Iraqi people was at its’ peak. It wasn’t Saddam’s crimes against humanity that caused him to fall from favor with the US, but rather when he stopped cooperating. They’re just looking to replace Saddam and hope to be able to cloak the puppet government in “democracy” to make it more palatable at face value.
“You cannot give us ‘democracy’ just like this, that is one of your Western, foreign dreams. Before, we had Saddam and he was a cruel man and he treated us cruelly. But what will happen after this election is that you will give us lots of little Saddams.” - Sunni Muslim security guard on election day
That’s so true. And, it is also ineffective. Torture me, and I’ll be happy to tell you where the hidden WMDs are. Even if I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’ll tell you they’re at the Winn-Dixie Supermarket on Crosshaven Drive. Then, when you go and find there not there and you come back and torture me some more, I’ll tell you they are in the ball-crawl at the McDonald’s restaurant in a suburb of Evanston, Illinois. And so on.
Am I the only person who remembers that Oprah show a few years ago where the guest said, “I have seven afghans in the back of my car” and Oprah thought she said “I have seven Africans in the back of my car”?
