I mean, I can see where pitch is generally overrated, but imho Walton’s Mellow D is the one of the worst tuned whistles out there. The bell note is practically an Eb while there rest of the whistle in D (and I use the term loosely).
I have, uh, acquired a couple of Oak shafts and have embarked on the project of experimentally grafting one of them onto the Sindt head. Not easy, because the Oak shafts are really quite thick. And I am low on whiskey.

Bloomfield,
I agree, I noticed at practice last night (It’s a dance weekend) that the D was pretty off as well as the upper octave. The only Sindt head I have is a C so I needed the bigger bore on the mellow. I haven’t tried other heads but the mellow shaft is close enough that with a bit of work I can get it playable. Now I just need to run off to the hobby store and get some KS tubing… and Whiskey or maybe some Charlieweiser (one of the guitar players brews his own beer and had a rather tasty stout). I won’t bother anyone with another Sindt review except to say I understand his waiting list and his reluctance to bring a cross fingered Cnat in tune. If the cross fingered Cnat were correct he would have a waiting list longer than the reach of a low low A whistler!
But: has anybody noticed the cool optical illusion that makes that picture look crooked? It isn’t, but the grain of the (faux) wood makes it seem to be slanting to the right. Just like weekenders.

I just thought it was the just the whiskey. Good to know it was the table. I feel better, must need some more whiskey.
