I returned home from Florida to find a box waiting for me. A Generation D and Bb (brass) were inside. The Bb is interesting. The new hole size and distance is going to take some getting used to.

If you were only used to high D whistles, you should be very pleased with your Gen Bb. It was my first non-D whistle, and I remember that I played it a lot when I bought it (nowadays I prefer to play a low F, though 
)

The Gen Bb is typically a brilliant whistle. It is easier to find a good Gen Bb. For instance: in a local music shop, they had two of every key that Generation makes. Both Bb whistles sounded solid, and none of the other keys were as good. I also bought a C that sounded decent, and then I tweaked it by laminating a piece of plastic from the front of a spiral notebook and supergluing it underneath the blade. The whistle now has a perfectly tiny sliver of light visible beneath blade when sighting down the windway or body. This took some careful measurements and even more careful placement, so make sure you only try it on a whistle you don’t quite love. For me, it made this Gen C one of my favorite whistles. Warm and smooth low end, and very sweet high end. Amazing balance between the two octaves… the whistle really came alive.
The Generation Bb is one of the best out there. You will get a hang of it in no time.
I like the lower tone of the Bb, not so shrill as the high D.
Yes, me too, I think the Gen Bb possibly is the best of the cheap whistles. The video clips in the thread about identifying a reel https://forums.chiffandfipple.com/t/what-reel-is-this/64769/1 really shows what you can do with a Gen Bb…
I made my wife cringe a few times last night. There I was, playing around on the Gen Bb, trying to get used to the new whole size and spacing. I had gotten ridden of most of the squawking on the High D, having gotten the concept of completely covering the hole and such. This Bb has larger holes, further apart. This lead to some amusing and sometimes cringe-worthy mistakes.

That you are. I have lived with a lot of people over the past years, and I still get dirty looks from all of them when practicing. It is hard to find some alone time, so not to bother anybody.
I tried moving my fingers to a piper grip tonight and some of the fingers became easier. Interesting.

I really enjoy my brass Gen Bb, with the poster putty tweak.
Not too long ago, I also bought a “Grayhead” mouthpiece from Mack Hoover to fit onto the Gen Bb barrel, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The sound is sweeter and smoother than the standard-issue Gen mouthpiece. It’s made of gray PVC. (Otherwise, it’s apparently the same as his Whitecaps.)
And as people on this forum always say of Mack, he’s a wonderful guy to do business with. He very kindly worked with me to get the whistle just exactly the way I like it.
