Time to stop putting off spring cleaning. I’m wanting to upgrade my flute or concertina and it’s time to find new homes for some of my whistles. I’m offering them here before going to Ebay.
$225 Thin Weasel – Blackwood (I call it the Black Weasel) has miniscule chip out of blade. Has absolutely no affect on quality of sound. If it is not as I describe it, you can send it back for full refund minus cost of shipping. This is an outstanding whistle but right now I have too many “outstanding whistles”

I have an Overton Low D tunable that is very hard to play. The blade may have been modified. I’m selling this as is but the price is right at $115, what I traded into it at. If it doesn’t sell, I’ll check into sending it back to Goldie and see if he will revoice it to suit me.

Copeland nickel high D and C
Busman Delrin with all Delrin mouthpiece
Abell Ef/D/C set and Bf/A set

Will consider accepting a Copeland A and/or Burke Brass session with the black delrin tip as trade or partial trade on any of the items above.
Prices do not include shipping and insurance. Please respond off the forum with an email or PM if interested or with questions. I’ll be out of town from Thursday afternoon until Sunday. Will answer emails or PMs in the order received.
I’m just holding them in trust for you until you win the lottery and then we can drive each other crazy figuring out what I’m going to keep and what you are going to pay an outrageous sum to acquire. And we can include other people and argue about it here on the whistle forum. See there is method in my madness.
I’d forgotten that you had tried that set out for a bit. It’s still as good as when you had it. If I didn’t have this new Busman Derin, I’d probably keep the set for my hiking and traveling whistle(s). Last I checked the WW set is up to about $144 or so. Maybe if I keep all these whistles, they will appreciate monetarily to the point that I can retire in 10 years.
The “Black Weasel” is a very VERY nice whistle. The balance between octaves is fantastic. The chip is very slight and had no noticable impact on the sound of the whistle. If I wasn’t saving up to replace a 15 year old car with 200,000 miles, bad struts, non-working air, bad water pump, etc. I would have serious thoughts about it or the Busman which is also a fantastic whistle.
Stop by sometime again Jim!
Mark V.
P.S. Jim is also a great guy to deal with and a gentleman.
Hi all. I had to get a new username because my old one stopped working. Anyway, would the blackwood weasel be a good first high-end whistle? I primarily play flute but have been playing some whistle too, and wouldn’t mind getting a really nice one…
Thanks Mark. Right back at ya! Have you got that nice mandolin yet?
I’m now back from my long weekend away from home. Anyone who tried to contact me and haven’t heard from me, please send another email or PM and I’ll get back to you.
I’ve been the proud owner of a Cocobola Thin Weasel, bought off Ebay for about 3 hours now.
First thoughts are what a beautiful looking instrument and just about the most expressive whistle I’ve ever played. It plays very loud or very softly without changing octaves unexpectedly!!
You should try one.
Actually I had forgotten that I’d committed to selling you the O’Riordans. As a matter of fact, I’m still trying to remember that. I’m even considering the possiblity that I told you I would just GIVE them to you. Now I’m all confused so while I consider what it is that I don’t remember, I’ll just have to keep the whistles safely for you. At my advanced age it could take quite a long time for me to figure this out…but don’t worry, I’ll take care of the whistles while it works itself out.
Who am I anyway? Is the answer actually “42”?
I guess I’ll just have “live the question.”
I disagree that it would be the last whistle you bought. I’ve bought three more Thin Weasels since my first, a D. The E, C, and Bb may be even better whistles. I have a damn fine cocobolo TW flute, too.
It would be a great whistle to cut your teeth on – it’s not the easiest whistle to play, but it would leave you a lot of room to grow as a musician. The great thing about the TW isn’t so much its sound, which is fantastic, but its depth and subtlety. I had mine for six months and suddenly realized how much better I sounded playing it than I had at the beginning.
