FS: Peter Noy Boxwood Flute with Amber Crown and Horn Rings

Peter Noy boxwood keyless flute with thinned head, tuning slide, classical style embrochure, horn rings/lip plate edge, and an amber jewel crown. It’s a very unique instrument, as much a piece of art as a musical instrument.

I lusted after this flute for years, originally owned by C&F member Damien up in Seattle where I first played it probably 7 years ago. It was sold to woman in England, it originally had white rings and an amber lip plate edge, all of which was replaced by Peter Noy with black horn.

When it went up for sale a few months ago, I had to have it and had it shipped overnight from England.

Now that I’ve had it for a few months, I’m finding that I can’t comfortably adapt to the classical-style large square-ish embrochure coming from a much smaller one, so its spending more time in the closet than being played. I’m used to the much smaller roundish embrochure on the Hammy headjoint on my Metzler and can’t really lock in on the Noy, it’s very different. Probably would be ideal for someone who already is used to playing a classical flute, since its pretty much identical in shape.

It’s a gorgeous instrument, very light, nice vibration in the hands. Having heard C&F member Aanvil and others play it up at the Long Beach Auld Dubliner session, I know it can be an amazing instrument in the hands of someone who is more used to playing an instrument with a larger square-ish embrochure.

Here’s several detailed photos:

I payed $1200 plus $85 in customs duties. Includes the case shown in the photos.

After it was here a couple of months, with the rapid changes in humidity we experienced here in SoCal the end of last year, I had to have a hairline barrel crack fixed by Jon Cornia. The repair is invisible.

I’m asking what I paid for it, which I think was more than a fair price for such a unique instrument, so $1285 plus insured expedited shipping.

I think flutes should be played, not collected in closets, so as much as I love just having this gorgeous piece of musical artwork, I’d rather see it in the hands of someone who will play it all the time.

Would also consider trades up/down/sideways for anything with Olwell stamped on it.

Please PM if interested.

What a cool looking flute! I love the amber end cap. There must be someone coming from a Boehm flute background who would love this flute.

Eric

Awesome player.

You sound rather good on it Michael but I agree that it’s a flute someone should be playing.

One can easily push a lot of sound out and around it, with lots of pop and its light as a feather.

I dunno if you really need to have a silver flute background… although I will admit I’m probably hardwired for all the years I played one.

It may be the emb shape or perhaps I just have a big mouth.

I play on an that old school round Rudal hole you know… it’s rather small.

There is certainly a lot of room to move around with that cut on your Noy.

It’s liberating and a dream to play.

I so wish I had the extra scratch… but I’ll be having to square up with Jon when he gets me that new cocus head and barrel for the Metzler.

So I gotz ta save me pennies.

Someone buy this!

I will second that, this flute is very light and has quick response.

The Noy is tentatively spoken for. I’ll update this thread if there is a change in status.

I have a Peter Noy flute and can vouch for what great instrument he makes. Very responsive, gorgeous tone in all 3 octaves.
