Hey all; I picked up an old 2 voice Paolo Soprani B/C accordion from an old Irish couple who, I believe, said it was used in the 50’s and how old it is they’re not sure.
Undoubtedly, it needs work. The bellows are missing a metal cap or two on the first 5 folds on the bottom (where it’d rest on your leg) from the treble side. The bellows work fine and the bass reeds all sound good. The gasket was repaired after I bought it, and the brackets for the straps have been replaced. The biggest flaw it has is the treble reeds need work. Mostly the low notes sound poor, but improve around D. I’ve played with fiddle, guitar, and bodhran and never had a crowd cringe. The high notes sound excellent and the second (most full) voice sounds very good as well. I’ll even play you a song on it to show you that it is very playable, though it needs some work.
The sole reason I am (considering) getting rid of this accordion is because I need the space and money to upgrade/fix up my other button accordion. It’s a beautiful accordion with an awesome case (old paolo soprani case, red, covered in stickers of places the owner had been: horse races, feis’s, rugby. His name is even on a sticker on it. Orflaith Breathnach) and the buttons have fantastic action and allow for graceful ornamentations. It’s an awesome box and I really hate to let it go. It breaths the sound of Ireland and I have much fun with it, but at this point I am playing frequently, I’m in a small dorm room and don’t have space for it. I’m forced to sell it. Any info, questions, or pictures you need I am willing to take and send (email me at sutorsw@jmu.edu). Make me an offer. Thanks and I hope this accordion goes to someone who will enjoy it as much as I did and more,
-Sean
