I’ve just added a page of Celtic folkoid instruments I have for sale to my web site.
I will eBay them again in a couple weeks’ time, but C&Fers have the first opportunity:
Instruments currently for sale:
Abell Eb, F, and high G whistles [NOTE: the F is now SOLD
the G is back on the block];
McGee pink (“red”) ivory piccolo with tuning slide;
Grady bodhran (16" x 6") with beautiful artwork;
Metloef Irish drum (14" x 6" with “lambeg” skin);
10-string Freshwater mandolin (with all-black appointments);
Beltone banjo mandolin (excellent condition from the 1920s-40s)
I will be breaking up the “set” of the mandolin and the banjo mandolin soon on the web site with pricing for each.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on
“Instruments for Sale”
for details.
Sure I want to sell these instruments, but I know that many pipers, and many folks on this list, are interested in playing other instruments as well.
In particular, the woodwinds may very well be of interest to pipers on this list.
Many pipers also play whistles and the piccolo also falls in the same woodwind category.
The web site I made to facilitate those interested in seeing the instruments and learning a bit more about them contains all of the instruments listed, so that’s why I named them all.
My personal thought is, there is vaild information of interest to some folks on this list.
If this isn’t of interest to you, you don’t have to spend your time with it (the “turn the dial; turn the knob to ‘off’ approach”).
i think you have to consider the source. when someone with a history of 1 post wants to sell stuff on the forum, that is troublesome at least to me.
when a member like tommy, who many of us have jammed with or sat in workshops with, and who has been posting for years, wants to tell us about instruments he is selling, i don’t think anyone should have a problem with that.
also, in my mind, “commercial” conjurs up a professional maker/retailer. i don’t think tommy will get rich selling these instruments. he probably just wants to rotate stock. something many other members have done.
I believe the commercial policy is directed towards those whose profession is to sell musical instruments. However, if a member of the forum wishes to sell some personal instruments, I don’t see this as contravening the policy. I think he might get better coverage by posting to the other forums as well as this one, considering this particular selection of instruments.
Now, if you know that tommyk sells instruments professionally, your point is well taken, and I would support your complaint fully.
