if its the shrillness of a whistle that bothers you, like claudein said, and you are worried about the difficulty of a flute, consider a low whistle. while the low whistle does not have the same range of expressive possibility of a flute, it is a quantum leap from suprano whistles in the beauty of the sound. plus, if you have no teacher, the low will be easier to do than a flute. you can always progress to flute later.
