I have an M&E keyless polymer flute in D for sale. It’s practically never been used and is a few years old, in perfect condition, for $290. They sell new for $350.
Does it have rings? Split or normal embouchure? Standard model, I guess (the R&R isn’t a few years old, I don’t think)?
I don’t need another flute, but…
Hi Rich,
It’s just a basic model, no rings and I believe a normal embouchure. I got it but never played it. Of course you need another flute-- and it’s for a good cause-- to help me pay off my concertina! --Miriam
Miriam,
Check your PMs!

Lol, I think I beat you by about half an hour, Ben…but I’m going to defer to you. I just realized since I play lefty style, I’ll likely have to order one special. ![]()
Nuh uh - I PM’d her last night!
And why would you need a special lefty flute if it’s keyless?
About a year ago, someone told me that on M&E flutes, the embouchure hole was not cut symmetrically all the way 'round and would need to be ordered lefty style. Since playing lefty style, you’d be blowing at the hole from the other direction, you’d certainly need it to cut properly in that direction ![]()
And if you PM’d last night, you definitely beat me ![]()
By symmetrical I’m guessing you mean the edges of the embouchure are cut for blowing from either side. Or do you mean the cut-away that some makers (including M&E) carve to beef up the volume?
Unless it has the cutaway, ask Mr. Cronnolly if he cuts his embouchure’s symmetrical. I’ve found him very prompt and helpful.
Cheers,
Aaron
Mr. Cronnolly cuts his regular embouchures to be able to play just as well from eighter side. I’ve been playing an M&E R&R for 2 years lefty, and it was straight out of the box until a few months ago when I got it keyed and a new headjoint in Cocobolo made for it. Don’t worry about it, the person who told you they were not cut symmetricall was eighter refering to the special cutaway on some M&E’s or he didn’t know what he was talking about at all.
Cheers
Thanks for the input! That’s really good information to know.
Perhaps the person who told me that had the split embouchure option, which defintiely isn’t the same all the way 'round..

Can’t say tho..they didn’t give a qualifier..just said M&E’s needed to be specified for lefties…(I found the information on my hard drive earlier today after I decided I was in the market for a flute)
I’m a total noob when it comes to flutes, so I am doing my best to acquire some knowledge before I plunk down my ducats on a good one. I’ve decided not to go the $40 dixon route to start with. But since I do play lefty style, I want to make sure that I covered my bases.
