Fizzies

Who remembers Fizzies?

They’re back!!!

You can get case lots from the Fizzies people themselves.

Or smaller quantities here or here.

Hey! Fizzies! I love Fizzies!

I’m not so sure about that second link, though. Did you check out some of the other offerings? I was checking the prices on ginger and licorice Altoids when I came across these tasty treasures!

Blueberry Butterfly Candy

The Butterfly wings are made from a Bouganvilla Flower with a real mealworm insect pupae in the middle!

A beautiful piece of candy!!

Apple Lollipop with Worm

A great novelty item that includes a real worm encased in a tasty apple flavored lollipop

Amber InsectNside Toffee Candy

Fresh assorted INSECTS trapped in edible amber!

I remember Fizzies very well. Sort of an Alka Seltzer with flavor. We loved them as kids!

Susan

And don’t forget the crickets – cheddar and bacon, salt and vinegar and sour cream and onion.

I was so excited about the Fizzies I didn’t check the rest of the site. It looks like they have gummi britches and two kinds of edible bra, too. But don’t worry – it’s nothing I wouldn’t let my own kids eat, as long as the finished their dinner.

One of our favorite things as kids (at those little mom and pop markets that used to dot San Francisco and I guess all cities) was Pixie Sticks…I guess they’re still around. Another big favorite was Turkish Taffy. You could also get a variation of pixie stix in a little packet that was called Lick-M-Aid.

So Fizzies are back though? I used to like to just pop a root beer one in my mouth whole. Those were the days! :boggle:

I must say, I find the inclusion of a healthy eating thread such as this on the board so welcome. :boggle:

anyone remember the “urban myth” where Mikie from the Life Cereal add was supposed to have died from an exploding stomach from eating Fizzies???

I remember fizzies. I don’t remember Mikey dying from them though. I guess he didn’t hate everything after all.

It wasn’t Fizzies; it was pop rocks. And little Mikey did not die. Here’s the Snopes article.

Of course he didn’t die. He wouldn’t eat it. He hated everything. Hey Mikey!

I hate to be a party pooper, but as a child, I thought they tasted like a misguided attempt to cover up the flavor of Alka-Seltzer. I only tried them once to find out what they tasted like.

You probably didn’t like those straws that flavored your milk when you sucked through them, either, did you?

Fizzies were better when you increased the dose.

My favorite was root beer, but I also remember liking the cola-flavored one.

I never knew about the straws, must have been in a different part of the country.

I did like to mix a heaping tablespoon of Tang in a glass with a 12 ounce bottle of Hire’s Root Beer. It had to be done just right, or you lost much of the fizz in the root beer or had undissolved Tang end up on the bottom of the glass. I had a friend who told me he had discovered the same beverage, independently.

I didn’t like Fizzies either. I can remember when they were first available and begging for them. Then I hated them.

I’d forgotten about the flavored straws. I loved the strawberry ones. Since the only way I’d drink milk was if it had some kind of flavoring in it, the straws were wonderful. Turkish Taffy was great. We fed some to one of the farm dogs once and she chewed for a long time, with it stringing between her jaws. Licorice was another favorite- the black kind.

Do y’all like Kits and B-B-bats?

I couldn’t remember the name, but when I looked them up at www.oldtimecandy.com, the pictures sure looked familiar. I kind of recall banana flavored ones.

I was also surprised to see you can still get candy cigarettes.
