fixing a whistle

Yes I know this has probably been done before, but I’m wayy to lazy to go through all the topics to try and find it, and so here is my problem. I have a wooden whistle that I got years ago, and its pretty good, except one of the notes, where the F would be on a D whistle, is a semi tone lower then it should be. Everything else is fine, any suggestions on how to fix that?

Thanks

Sounds like it was designed to play a minor scale instead of major.
I think you can enlarge the hole to sharpen the note, but I may be
remembering wrong…

Yes, it sounds like it was made to play a minor scale, or at least not a standard whistle scale. Do you mean it plays an F natural where the F# would be on a D whistle? Please give us a better description of the flute. Are there any markings other than decorations, and what is it made of? Is it bamboo?

Sorry…uh I have no idea what kind of wood its made out of, not good at recognizing that. So if it were in the key of D, which I think it is, or as you were saying uhh B minor? Did I get that right its been a while since I last did therory. The F that supposed to be F# is just an F. Hopefully that helps

First, borrow a friends electronic tuner and find out what key the whistle is in. (write down all the open notes on the first scale and compare it to a “D” scale.)

If the whistle is in the key of “D”, you can raise the tone of the offending hole by filing it larger on the upper side (SMALL INCREMENTS!!!). If you go too far or you wish to return the hole to the former pitch, apply clear nail polish to the inside of the tonehole until it plays like before.
