Over the weekend I officially became a whistler. At the Costa Mesa Highland Games (anyone go?) I acquired a Clarke D and the wonderful accompanying book. By the way, Dale, the diamonds between the holes don’t look so bad up close. Now I just need to find somewhere to practice because I do not wish to torture the other people in my dorm.

Finding a place to practice isn’t too tough. I frequently sit in parking lots waiting for my wife, while trying to learn the latest tune. Any place in the open is fine. Gives the tortured room to escape. When I was in school I probably would have found a place in the dorm. Maybe thats why then didn’t invite me back.
Anyway - Welcome to the board. Don’t be a stranger.

Yes, when you’re outside whistles get a lot quieter than when you’re indoors in a room by yourelf (I think whistles must have deeply-rooted people phobias).

Heh, what a coincidence…I too got my start at the Costa Mesa festival, with a Walton’s D. You know, OCC across the street from the fairgrounds has practice rooms for anyone to use - you can shut the door and play undisturbed. The rooms have pianos in them too, so you can bring along an accompanist, once you get to that stage.
