Feadog C vs. Walton C

I’m planning to buy a couple of whistles and I’m torn between a Feadog C and a Walton’s C. Anyone have a preference and why? I suppose I could just get both, but I don’t want to break my bank because I’m planning on getting a couple of others in the same order. Thanks for your help!

Peace,
Bill

 Both

At least one of each! They are both great whistles IMHO.

You could always get the best of both worlds and get a Mellow Dog with the C body. I just got this set and I’m liking it quite a bit.

I don’t have a Feadóg C, but have a D and like it. Plenty of bite, poppy chiff and a traditional sound. If the C is anything like it, I’d get one.

I do have a Waltons C and I’m not sure how I feel about it. It has a nice flutey/airy sound, but I have a hard time keeping it in the register I want it in. Tommy from the forums here emailed me through some tweaking and cleanup. I spent a good 30-45 minutes working on it. It ended up better than it was out of the box, but I still have problems with it. When I’m “on” with it, it’s a nice whistle, but it seems I’m “off” more often.

Feadog C’s are strong, loud whistles. Waltons C’s are quiet and breathy sounding… they also take considerably more air to play. Just decide what characteristics you prefer… or buy both and decide from your own experience.

I knew I could count on you all! Thanks for the help!

I would say not only both, but more besides! If you’re like so many of us, you’ll amass a considerable collection of the affordably priced whistles (and maybe a few of the expensive ones too!). Each has its own charm. Like many here, I have a small bucket of whisltles and wouldn’t give any of them up.

Where can I get a Mellow Dog with the C body? I love the Mellow Dog in D. I didn’t realize they were available in C. Thanks- Mike

Mellow Dogs are made from a Feadog C head and a Walton’s Mellow D body. (The Mellow D has a wider than average tube.) That leaves the original C body that can still be used with the head. Makes a nice set if you buy the extra tube.

You can get a C tube direct from Jerry Freeman the Master Tweeker of the Mellow Dog. The C tube will fit the Mellow Dog’s tweaked Feadog whistlehead. Jerry posts on C&F and you can also contact him through his eBay auctions.

Thanks, Keuka. I was so busy explaining that I forgot to say that Jerry sells those extra tubes. At a very reasonable price too!

I speak about tuning, for a theme in this case very amusing
Tuning of Waltons D always was bad for me. Low E and D note - too high, and so, that I can not hear this :frowning:
Feadogs - on the contrary, best of inexpensive are very exact in tuning, probably.
For C-whstles all turns out in another way. Here Waltons sound more good, than Feadogs. I have in a kind tuning, certainly. I do not mention preference of tone.
So it is better to you to buy both, and if sound Feadog is pleasant more to put on whistlehead it tube Walton else to leave all as is

The Mellow Dog fipple is just a tweaked Feadóg C fipple. So if you already have one, you can probably put it on any cheapie C tube. I’ve tried mine on a Gen C, and an Oak C as well, but I think it sounds best on the Feadóg C that I got from Jerry when I ordered the whistle.

I just realized that I haven’t tried it on my Walton C yet.

For the additional $5.00, it’s a great deal. Plus, I’m pretty sure he cleaned up the C tube a bit.

I believe that walton is not very good whistle, in fact is one of my worse whistles, in addition strangely it has an extreme condensation in the flippe

I love Feadog Cs.

I don’t think anyone needs much more than a Feadog C and D set. :poke:

They are, IMHO, the best value whistles out there (in my limited experience, of course).
