Okay, enuf of Belgian brews. There’s a Johnny-come-lately American brew called “Fat Tire”. Can’t stand it. The hype sez something about the taste and aroma of roasted grain, but it’s for all the world like burnt saltine crackers to me.
Nano - I agree about Fat Tire…one of my least favorite beers. It sure is flavorfull, but not in a good way.

There are far too many good beers in the world to claim one is “The Best”, I think. I can think of quite a few that merit “One of the Best”, though.
Since I live in the SF Bay area of California, my default beers (that is, I buy them more often than any others) are Anchor Steam, Anchor Liberty Ale, Sierra Nevada IPA, and Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. Yes, I like hoppy West Coast brews.
When I want something darker, I go for Anchor or Sierra Nevada’s Porters, Sierra Nevada’s Stout, or North Coast’s wonderful Russian Imperial Stout.
If I want a Barleywine, I love Sierra Nevada’s seasonal Bigfoot Barleywine (one batch a year, available in the early spring) - I usually lay down enough to last me the year.
Yes, my list is very northern California centric. I’m sure that there many equally good brews brewed in other parts of the country - that’s sort of the point. When I was working in Cork a few years back Beamish was my tipple of choice. I like to drink locally
