Farewell to Ireland on whistle?

Hi there, I wonder if any whistle/flute players out there have a score/ABC for Farewell to Ireland, strathspey, as played by Natalie MacMaster? I am struggling to transpose it form the sheet music, also, what key would it be in?

Many thanks

Louise.

I only have Farewell to Ireland as a reel; I’m not even sure if it’s the same basic tune – BUT, just in case, here are some ABCs that might at least serve as a start …

Not exactly the pinnacle of Flute-Friendly, but it’s a good tune all the same.

If it’s the wrong one, my apologies!

I suspect it’s this strathspey setting in question: http://www.www.thesession.org/tunes/display/2695

Of course, Louise, you’ve posted on the comment page there, so you already know about that.

Is there something wrong with that setting? It follows Natalie’s recording, which is what you say you want. If you’re concerned about the A and B parts on flute, just fold them up an octave.

Or you could transpose the whole thing to E Dor - which leads to different foldings, but which sits a bit more comfortably on flute.

Thanks for that link, MTGuru. I looked at the dots and said “Whoa, cool! I can see the reel in there!” – then I read the comments and understood why. Thanks again, and sign me Duly Edified. (Dully Edified?)

Oh thanks everyone, I’ve got it! D whistle and flute working very happily!!

Many thanks,

Louise.
