Far away drones are longer

I got my new set of Whitmer drones recently and the one thing I have to say is that I always thought drones would be bigger. It’s not just Nick’s drones (admittedly, I have the short bass drone), but whenever I see other pipers playing, their drones and regulators look very long. On the occasion when someone graciously allows me to play their set, the first think that strikes me is that the drones don’t seem as long when I’ve got them on my lap.

Has anyone else had this experience?

I have the same experience
although the regulator keys at the ends are very far away (yet)

I have a somewhat opposite experience. When I’m playing the things, they seem pretty big and cumbersome, but when I look at other people playing, those chanters look tiny to me.

It’s kinda funny, but, my drones and chanter look the same size whether they’re across my knee or sitting in a chair.

It’s a matter of perspective lads.

How do they look when “Mini-Joe” is playing a few reels.

Relax PJ. This is a classic case of “Drone Envy”.
