Currently offered for adoption are two well made simple basic Blackwood flutes.
SOLD!
The first is a Dave Williams with faux ivory rings. This is a fun playing flute, it is so light and responsive. The playing quality reminds me of an Olwell Nicholson, but I believe it is based upon a large holed Rudall design. When I say light I mean it, this flute only weighs 7.5 oz. The embouchure is very free-blowing with little back-pressure and produces a very flexible tone. This flute is easy to fill and can be pushed fairly hard. It plays @ 440 Hz for me with the tennon pulled out about 3 mm.
The second is made by Brent Santin of Ontario, with faux ivory rings on the ends and stainless rings (strength) over the sockets. This is a robust flute, with fairly good intonation and a pleasant tone (solid player). The only real anomaly in the scale is the bottom E is sharp (I think Brent did this to strengthen the note). The 2nd E is right on! The tone and playability of this flute remind me of a Copeland (based on a Prowse design). The embouchure is a bit smaller and makes for good air economy! This flute plays @ 440 Hz for me with the tennon shut and the embouchure sunny side up. Unique features of this flute are the tennon on the bottom section and a Canadian Penny affixed to the tuning cork (see photo.). I’m asking just $250 for this one!
