Why do I get a distinct feeling that Glands is having fun with us and is suggesting that, in view of his personal piping situation, he has no need to fuss with reedmaking?
Change of avatar to suit topic! Disclaimer I am not a real reed doctor, more a sort of reed bloodletter/leech I suppose.
For these statistics to have real meaning we would need to define a “successful playable reed”
This does not mean a reed that does everything in a pleasant dreamlike way, eg hard E hard F, straight in on high B or D, back D you can sit an elephant on the bag for, loads of tone and perfect tuning. All working on a very narrow pressure band, and with all alternative fingerings (like in the Rowsome tutor for example).
Or does it? If so I’d like to know how!
Different reeds suit different people also. I think we’re talking here about a reed that I’d be happy to play in public. That’s most of them for me, but if I didn’t have the option of re-tying and trying a different staple it would be far fewer. If I didn’t pick out good cane it would be fewer too.
