Ever Hold an Owl?

“NOW YOU LISTEN HERE, OWL! I DON’T WANT TO HEAR ANOTHER SCREECH OUTTA YOU!”

One never realizes how much a finger can look like a mouse until its much, much too late.

:astonished:

Yes, a barn owl at a raptor rehab centre. They are absolutely stunningly gorgeous creatures up close. I did nothing particularly remarkable, as the bird already knew to fly to and from the glove. Something as lame as this, but incredible nonetheless:

This guy seems to be fairly safe, as the owl in question looks to be a Screech owl. However the finger could have a resemblance to a grasshopper or some other tasty item. It is not a good idea to stick your finger in front of the mouth of any hungry creature. You could pick up a painful nickname.

I love owls! Once I’m on my retirement, I’ll buy a bunch of them and go hunting with them. Right now I don’t have the time to keep them socialised.

But indeed, it isn’t very clever to hold your finger before a hungry animal. I have several toothmarks from my monitor lizard who tought my fingers were a tasty little mouse when I wanted to change his water bowl an hour ago… And it’s not the first time he’s faster then I think. Luckely he isn’t an adult yet, or I might be missing some fingers now. :astonished:
