Forty-five years after Andy Irvine’s celebrated Bulgarian oddessey, and 30 years after Bill Whelan’s Riverdance brought some diddle-eye prosperity to a few local musicians, the citizenry of the Bulgarian city of Kalofer amass on the banks of the Tundzha river to drown a wannabee drummer and his ‘instrument’. “We hope to beat this noxious scourge - if not for all time, then at least from this time signature,” said one attendee. “We think that with persistence and some determination this should be an attainable goal.” He would identify himself only as “Ringo”.
Very funny, Simon, that made my day. Thanks for the chuckle. ![]()
Who you gonna call? BodhránBusters! They ain’t ‘fraid o’ no drums!
He must been bodhran under a bad sign…
Can’t say as I have ever heard of a bodhran used for dowsing, tippers sure although a good forked witch hazel twig will do the job just fine.
They’re lousy tippers, too.
Mind you, a forked hazel stick or four is the Goddess-approved method for staking the sacrifice down in the bog. I read it in Seamus Heaney.
