maybe because those pesky old drones that come with uilleann pipes only play the note “D” and so only go well with the keys of D or G.
I play this tune in thesession.org setting/key, but I’d rather just belt it out on a flute or whistle.
Transposing it would mean you could switch on your drones and (who knows) it might sound pretty cool!

As an aside, Henry Norbecks add on for the ABC software allows transposition of tunes - and easier editing (to wit: copying and pasting chunks of tunes that are straight copies of other bits).

According to the comments on The Session the tune was written by an uilleann piper though that doesn’t mean he composed it to be played on the UP. The minor keys can sound cool against the drones. You just can’t do the regs so much.
