“the flute is made of rosewood that has nice grain and colour although there are some splits in three of the five sections of the flute as shown in the photos, the worst of these are in the blow hole section and this appears to have a metal sleeve inside this section , the other cracks are more hairline in nature , all the metal keys appear to be working and have their pads intact, …”
Boosey???
Who made a straight c natural touch like that?
Was it very common? I think Ive seen Rudalls? Beckett?
is it a replacement?
Boosey, we don’t need no stinkin’ Boosey!

I doubt anyone will bid for this old Victorian flute as the starting bid, 2500 GBP, is too high
Kevin and Steampacket, you’ve both linked the same flute.
£2.5k for a fully fettled and pristine Boosey Pratten ought to be a sensible selling price. Whether it can pull that in today’s market… Personally, versus modern maker flutes, I think that’s excellent value for money and I hope the vendor gets a sale. I doubt it will bid up much, if at all, but if I was looking for a serious player’s top-notch Pratten 8-key, I’d go for it, and I’d advise anyone who is looking to do so.
As for the OP flute, why would anyone think it might be a Boosey? It’s a quite typical mid C19th London 8-keyer, reminds me stylistically of Fentums and Wyldes etc. The straight C touch might suggest earlier rather than later. Bet the key stamps would have told us something! A good doer-upper, I’d say. Yes, I bid on it but it went above my limit. Anyone here get it?
Steampacket wrote Boosey?
In the first post. To be clear my post:
Boosey???
Means why on earth would anyone think Boosey of the original flute mentioned.

I linked it first. So there.
That Boosey looks in great shape, and while I can’t afford it, I thought the price was OK.

“I linked it first. So there. That Boosey looks in great shape, and while I can’t afford it, I thought the price was OK.” Kkrell.
Yes Kevin’s right on both counts. I linked to the Boosey to distinguish from the “Boosey?”
this thread was about. Nowt wrong with the price, I also think it’s a great instrument, but as stated I doubt anyone will bid at that starting bid.
