Drone reeds?

Just an update to let you all know what I have done so far.
I have been distracted for most of the aussie summer trying to make a C chanter reed.

Thanks to oleorezinator for the link to the song of the sea article.
Clicking on the can’t wait link on the bottom right of the page worked for me.

I have made a set of bodies but have not attached tongues to them yet.

The note about drilling the holes in the flattest surface of the square tubing is important.
Doing this will save much filing and sanding.

I found using a hand drill I could drill the small holes more accurately than with a power drill.
Cutting slots with a dremel, I ended up with longer, wider, and less neat slots than I intended. Not reccomended. If you want slots then drill a series of holes close together, then merge them with a needle file.

The use of a string of blu-tac as a gasket to seal the tuning slides is an excellent idea.
I found this produced a better seal and easier adjustment than beeswax or slightly flattening th ends of the slide as mentioned in the article linked to my previous post.

I used epoxy to attach the bodies to the round tube and to plug the tuning slides. I believe this will yield a stronger bond. Also epoxy files and sands well.

The song of the sea bodies were shorter than the ones scaled from pics in the above linked article.

That’s about it for me at the moment.

Best wishes,
