Dream Flute

Just wanted to sound off & see what would make up the average simple system flute players “dream flute”. I’m not so much looking for specific makers (Olwell, Murray etc) as much as some details - materials, key configurations, looks, price range etc.

Thanks

African Blackwood, 6 to 8 sterling silver keys with block mounts, nickel-silver covered tuning slide, raised (D profile) rings, affordable. Wait, I’ve got one. I might want to give boxwood a try one of these days.

Probably, the ultimate dreamflute for me would be a 6-keyed (Blockmounted sterling silver key’s), Cocus or Box-wood Pratten style flute. An easy blown Pratten -I’ve heard that such a thing really exists-, or a powerful R&R modell. Concert pitch, with flat, wide silver band rings or D profile rings. A long C foot with open C and C# holes.

Or a 4-keyed Bb flute in Boxwood.

A dream flute turns into a snake while you’re playing it for your mom.
Better stick to real flutes.

Okay, no more staying up late, eating too much candy, and watching Harry Potter for Gordon…

Loren

I was thinking of the more Freudian implications, but if Harry Potter works for you…
Gordon

Ummm, okay…Perhaps this is something best shared with your therapist? :astonished:

Loren

Plays itself, makes me sound like a champ, and didn’t cost a penny.

I’ll bite
A Rudall/Rose, large holes, two headpieces (one a Patent Head).
I know where there is one and he won’t sell. Sits in a box. Waiting.

Or a boxwood Pratten original, in Eb. They sold them, the catalogue says. I’ve just never heard of one out there existing today. I do know of two boxwood Boosey-Prattens in F, though.

Would one be owned by someone with the initials NH, formerly owned by TM?

Kevin Krell

I don’t know, David – you’re thinking of a dream flute… Doesn’t this just fit into the rather small, limited category of what you don’t already have?
Best,
Gordon

There’s something to drool over! Have you played either of them, and if so how did they sound/play? What sort of condition are they in?

Loren

The fact that the catalouge offered an Eb boxwood Boosey doesn’t mean that anybody ever ordered one ,or that one was made .

you’re so right, Andrew…but one can hope, right??

and Kevin, you’ve got it on the one…the other is in Scotland.

Gordon…you should see what I don’t have! That ivory Rudall on my website for one! The owner of that actually owns a wonderful flute (not a Rudall…but a maker considered the best of all at the time…of course, I’m not giving the name away just in case I ever find one!) that I’d adore to have…but the owner won’t ever part with it.
And that’s not even the sameone with the Box-Rudall with two heads!
<===very big sigh

Ahh, I know you don’t have every flute, David… But most of my dream flutes, you do, so…
Just keeping it all in perspective; perhaps the dream flute is always the one(s) we don’t have…
Gordon

I think you’ve got it now, Gordon!

by the way…I heard that Isaac sent his flute to Olwell for some work. Any idea what for?

My dream flute is any flute that I can and make me sound like Matt Molloy

MarkB

Well then, Tom McElvogue used it to record his track for Wooden Flute Obsession 2. Cool.

Kevin Krell

I should have been more concise with my question, I’m designing a flute & wanted design ideas from other players.

What sort of market are you aiming for?

I’m an ITM player, so my needs out of a flute wouldn’t be met with a Baroque design, for instance.
