I was wondering to what extent one can find Donegal influence in piping today. Are there any tunes which are considered “Donegal Tunes” in the piping repertoire? Any particular players who have a Donegal-influenced style? How come one doesn’t ever hear the Donegal Highlands on pipes? Well, I guess I dont really have a coherent question, just looking for disussion of the Donegal-pipes relationship, if there is one. Thanks.

There is the Donegal reel at least. From what an Irish friend of mine tells me, there is a large Scottish contingent there. As such there are alot of Highland pipes to be heard, and says he, it’s a great place to spend New Years(Hogmenas {sp?}). Oddly enough, he’s from Galway but has a preference for Scottish pipes. :roll:

Joe McLaughlin plays a lot of Donegal stuff, both Robbie Hannan and Sean Og Potts were much influenced by him.
